Graphic Designers

Posted in WWW Resources by admin on the May 20th, 2008

Graphics are needed to enliven a given space. But to create impact they must be designed and used sensibly. Graphic design is not just about creating good looking stuff, but creating impact and communicating sense. Not such an easy job. Graphic designers are fully equipped and qualified people to perform this task. They can create graphics, modify, restructure, arrange and rearrange them to communicate the required message. This could involve arranging print and graphics for pages of a document, creating an interesting logo or mast head, catalogue, company calendars, year planners, invitations, postures, advertisements, banners, publications, designing a website and so on.
Depending on the purpose of a graphic to be created, audience and medium, designers think of different ideas and concepts to communicate the message in the best possible way. The final development also depends on the medium to be used such as print, film or electronic. Layouts are created by hand or computer to put the idea on paper. Use of computers in graphic designing has become a must. Graphic designers should keep updating their skills and knowledge on latest software.
Graphic designers need to be creative with a constant supply of fresh and unique ideas, able to work under tight deadlines and should keep updating with new technology and demands. It is a customer relations job and their needs should be respected first. Some clients demand lot of rework until they get what they had in mind. Satisfying a client is a tough job and needs patience.
There are some qualities which graphic designers must have. Some people are innately capable and can become polished after getting trained, while others are interested and can acquire skills. There is also a category of graphic designers who are not very competent even after full fledged training. There are many long and short term graphic design courses for people to get trained. Some take students only after they qualify a basic skills test. A full-time bachelor’s degree with advanced short courses gives one an edge. However, experience is the biggest teacher. Graphic designers are much in demand with the ever increasing needs of the Internet, website designing, animation and animated films. It is one the most attractive occupations in present times.

How To Build A Website, That Will Replace Your JOB

Posted in WWW Resources by admin on the May 12th, 2008

Why can’t you learn how to build a website in just a couple months and become an instant success online?

Well it is possible, and then again it isn’t possible, else, everyone would be enjoying the wealth that is possible online, if you would only learn how to do the things that needs to be done first to create profitable websites online.

To get you started on the right track, here are the five things you need to do now:

1) Do not join any membership site offering to build you adsense sites

Everyone is eager to start making money and they jump into the adsense craze, and believes that by building 100 hundred sites, they will be able to make hundreds of dollars daily. But, what they don’t understand is that the search engines are getting wiser, with much better algorithms, and can spot the thousands of replicated sites within a couple of days. So, those sites aren’t worth anything.

If, you do plan to take that route, then you must know a little CSS (Cascading Style Sheet), that will enable you to modify the templates, and design your own website a little different than the rest.

2) Forget about the hype and learn how to build a website that is simple

Don’t fall for flash and all the other garbage out there, learn how to design your own website from scratch, by using one of those HTML editors that doesn’t require you to know any HTML. Once you spend time understanding how to build a website that is Search Engine friendly and attractive to your visitors, you on your way to start seeing results with the next three to four months.

3) Don’t fall for the “Guru” knows whats best next big thing

Most, of the online so called “Gurus”, are nothing but product pushers, they try to sell you the next big thing that hits the market, while they haven’t even tried the product or have a clue what it is supposed to do. They just post offers on a daily or weekly basis to their list, in the hopes that you will keep buying.

Stay clear of the type of mentality, you need to find one person online you trust, and stick with that mentor, follow his strategies, and learn how to build a website, the way he does, and even ask questions. Many online marketers do like to help, because it makes them shine, when a newcomer hits it big.

4) Get one manual on affiliate marketing and stick with it

Don’t go out there and buy everything that hits the market, get one affiliate marketing manual and follow those principles outlined for three months, and you can be guaranteed to make money online. Only when you have mastered one skill, should you move on to learning another to improve your websites built.

Your task is to learn as much as you can and as fast as you can, while eliminating the greed factor by trying to join or buy every new product or system to hit the market.

You can’t learn how to build a website, if your spending all your time reading emails daily, so, you need to un-subscribe form all those list, and only keep one or two.

Schedule a time when you will read emails and stick with it.

5) Learn how to build a website from principles that works

Every couple of pages you browse you find articles telling you the money is in the list, but how many are telling you that the list needs to go with a website. You have to build a website first and then start building a list.

To build a website that will be Search Engine Friendly, you need to understand keyword research. You need to invest in a keyword research tool, that will help you find better keywords and build your pages around one keyword. Don’t go stuffing your pages with loads of keywords, because, the search engine don’t like that.

Now, you know how to build a website that will be profitable, go out there and start building.

Alexander Marlin, has been building search engine optimized websites for years now. You can learn how to build a website that will be profitable within months.

CGI Installation: 3 Beginner’s Mistakes in CGI Installations

Posted in WWW Resources by admin on the April 29th, 2008

Sooner or later every webmaster needs CGI.

It is difficult to imagine the website maintainence with out CGI.

CGI scripts can be used to process a simple form to maintaining a
membership area. There are many scripts online, which can be used to
automate your website.

**Form proccessing

**Autoresponders

**Order taking, Order proccessing

**Steamline your downloads

**Protecting your private folders

**Easy maintanence of the website

**Tracking your advertisements

**Maintaining an affiliate site

**Counters, classifieds, link directories…

There is no end to this list.

But the problem with cgi scripts is ‘how to install on your
servers?’

You don’t have to learn perl or write scripts on your own to maintain
your CGIs.

As a webmaster of your site you need to know about installing scripts
for yourself. Otherwise you will end up with paying hundreds of dollars
for script installations.

Basic THREE steps that you should check during cgi installations are:

1.UPLOADING OF FILES:

CGI files should be uploaded in ASCII mode. In this mode the ‘end-of-line’
character translated properly and the script lines are transfered in
proper format. (In BINARY mode, the characters will not be translated. Instead
they are transfered exactly as a duplicates)

Tip: DON’T run your FTP software in automode to upload cgi files. Set it
to ASCII mode manually and upload the files.

2.CONFIGURING THE SCRIPTS:

When you buy a script, you have to set few variables. So that the script
runs correctly on your server.

When you doing this, you should have an idea about your server perl paths,
absolute paths, URLs etc. The URLs are case sensitive.

Scriptname.cgi

scriptname.cgi

scriptname.pl

Scriptname.pl

All four are taken differently by your server.

3.FILE PERMISSIONS:

Once you upload files, don’t rush to run the script. Set and check the
file permissions.

If you don’t set the permissions to cgi or pl files, the server doesn’t
get access to your files and you will see ‘500 Internal server error’.

Most of the times cgi files need to be ‘755′. Always check the instructions
of the script providers.

If you are keeping an eye on these three steps, you can do your script
installations!

Brainstorming Your Website Topic - Questions To Ask Yourself

Posted in WWW Resources by admin on the April 22nd, 2008

Do you want to start a website but aren’t sure what topic or niche to begin with?

Many people start with a concept that’s near and dear to their heart- their passion,
whatever that may be. This is a good idea for someone new to internet business.
Why? For a couple of reasons.

1) You’re more likely to have the needed “sticktoitiveness” necessary for success.
If it’s a topic you feel strongly about then you’re not as likely to get bored.
You’re already sharing your views on the subject with other people, you’re just
not earning income from your knowledge.

2) You probably already know a lot about the niche.
You’re already a bit of an expert on the topic and can talk about it at length. This is a good
thing because you’ll be writing website copy and articles for your business, and in
order to keep costs down in the beginning, it’s a great thing if you can write yourself.

But what if you’re totally stuck and can’t figure out what topic or niche you already
have a body of knowledge about? This is a common problem, but take heart.
I’m going to guide you through some things that will get you brainstorming many
possible business niches.

First I’d like you to grab a piece of paper and a pen. Start writing down whatever
comes to your mind after reading the following questions. Don’t rule anything out at
this point, just brainstorm.

What do you enjoy doing?
What hobbies do you have?
What do you have a knack for?
What do people say you do well?
What do people ask you for advice on?
What do you know a lot about?
What abilities do you have?
Who do you really admire? Why?
What books do you have lying around your house?
What magazines do you subscribe to?
What section of the bookstore do you gravitate towards?
What do you talk with your girlfriends about?
Have you ever found yourself saying: “There needs to be a website about ___”?

Have fun with it, and if you get stuck, ask your husband or a friend for help.
Sometimes we tend to be a little modest about our abilities.

Of course, before investing your time and money into a business idea, you first need to
do some research to make sure there is a market for what you want to sell. That’s another
article. :)

Double Your Sales by Improving Your Existing Website

Posted in WWW Resources by admin on the April 8th, 2008

If your website has been online for a while and you have been marketing it either through ads or pay-per-click search engines, it is very likely that you already have some traffic coming to your website on a regular basis. I will tell you how to make more sales by simply improving your existing website. If done correctly you will see increase in sales within days. Please note that this article will not provide you with a “Get rich overnight” scheme, so if you are looking for something like that this article is not for you.

I like to tell my clients to think of their website as brick-and-mortar business. Imagine that you are owner of a store. Customer comes in looking for something that you have to offer. I bet you would know exactly what to do to make a sale. So why not apply the same tactics to your online store. What would bring a visitor to your store and persuade him/her to buy from you? Let’s make a list.

  • Availability of the product
  • Price
  • Location of the product in the store
  • Customer support
  • Peace of mind that he/she is buying from a real company that will deliver the quality and support your visitor is looking for

Let’s now transfer that onto a website. Let’s assume that you have the best priced product/service in your industry. What’s next?

Location of the product in the store
Just like a real store, you online store has to be easy to navigate and all your products should be easy to find. Make sure to have clear links to all your categories. It is also a good idea to place “what’s in my cart” type of box on all pages so that your customer will know what he/she already added there at all times.

    Customer Support
Customer support is extremely important for any online business. Because there are no sales people to help your customer, he/she should have access to as many ways of communicating to your company representative as possible. Place your company’s phone number, live support button and any other contact information on the prominent spot on every page of your website or at least put a link to contact page.

Making sure customer feels safe buying from you
This aspect is also very important. Because your customer will be buying from a virtual store, he/she have no way of knowing if there is a real company behind the website or is this just a fraudulent store. Place links to about us, terms of service and privacy policy pages on all of your pages. Make sure to put company’s mailing address on the contact page.

Sometimes it is a good idea to put pictures of your staff with couple of sentences about them. That way customer feels a personal touch and knows there are real people behind your website.

Notify your customers that your website is 100% secure and they don’t have to worry when providing their credit card information during the checkout process. You might also consider to get verified by services like Better Business Bureau or VeriSign. Having their seals of approval on your website will provide confidence to your visitors.

    Improving your website’s design
Website’s design plays a crucial role in deciding whether to buy from a website or not. Besides making sure your website looks professional and every product is easily accessible you should also consider the following aspects:

    Browser compatibility
Make sure your website works with all popular browsers including Mozilla, Netscape and Firefox. Now more and more people are switching to alternative browsers and it would be a shame to loose potential customer simply because he/she can’t open your website.

    Resolution compatibility
Also make sure that your website can be viewed in all resolutions. Under low resolutions parts of your website might not be accessible without scrolling to the side, make sure your navigation does not disappear like that.

    Loading Time
Lately it has become less of an issue because most users are using high-speed internet access to access the web. That does not mean however that you should disregard visitors who have slower internet connections. Make sure your website loads as quickly as possible.

Right about now you might say “I knew all of this!” and you might be right. The question is, did you implement it? For some unknown reason most people don’t bother to implement these simple things into their websites and are loosing money every day.

How to Get Cheap Internet Service

Posted in WWW Resources by admin on the April 6th, 2008

Ever want to have an internet connection but couldn’t afford it?

Did you ever encounter companies offering cheap internet services but has doubtful quality of service?

It is possible to get cheap internet service providers that offer quality services. All you have to do is look for it.

Try searching the internet, here you can find many internet service providers that can offer affordable rates with great quality. If you live in a large city, chances are, there will be so many internet service providers that compete with each other.

These internet service providers will offer great deals with quality services in order to attract and keep customers.

They can offer a wide variety of internet packages with incentives for their customers. With competition, you can be sure that they will try to attract as much customers as they can with low prices with rewards and bonuses included.

If you live in a small community, there will usually be one or two internet service providers. These providers usually charge higher rates because of lack of competition. You can find internet service providers online that can offer cheap internet services in many areas.

You just have to find out if these companies can reach your area. They can offer you WiFi or wireless internet connection, which requires just a computer and an antenna or internet satellite dish. WiFi internet connection can be relatively cheap.

You can also have cheap internet connection by using a dial up. Because of advancement in internet technology, dial ups are now very cheap and in some countries, free.

However, dial up internet connections are not fast, this type of connection is only suitable if you are just going to use the email or surf the web. If you are more into downloading large files, dial up will not work for you.

Research your local library about cheap internet connections and cheap internet providers that offers services in your area and can offer you some pre-requisites.

You can also find cheap high-speed internet services by researching in the internet, your search results may come up with cable, DSL, and mobile internet services. In these three, the most expensive is cable, and DSL will require a telephone line.

Researching in the internet also enables you to compare different companies and different kinds of internet packages. It is up to you to choose which of these are the cheapest and that meets your needs.

High-speed internet service are becoming more popular and because of this the price becomes cheaper and cheaper. Installation fees can be a bit expensive, but monthly fees can get closer to the price of the dial up. Some high-speed internet service provider’s offers free installation to attract more customers.

Keep in mind that the price of the internet depends on how you use the technology. If you use internet for just emailing, it is probably not practical to get a high-speed internet connection.

Instead, go for the dial up internet, it may not be fast, but can produce enough speed for email purposes. If you use the internet for downloading large files, then high-speed internet is for you.

Basically, this means that determining the price of the internet does not really depend on the numbers you see on a sales quote but it is really about getting your money’s worth.

Bob Hett has extensively covered the Internet Service Provider industry as an analyst and has researched the various companies for factors based on price, reliability, support and overall quality. Learn more at Cheap Internet Service

Top 3 Myths About Internet Marketing

Posted in WWW Resources by admin on the April 5th, 2008

Lack of understanding and old thinking has long cost small
business owners their competitive edge and despite a steady
stream of research proving the effectiveness of Internet
marketing, yet again, it has mostly been larger firms taking
advantage of this new advertising medium. According to
projections by eMarketer.com, online ad spending in 2005 grew by
more than 30%, surpassing the $10 billion mark for the first
time. But many small and medium-size business owners (SMEs) are
still wary of introducing Internet marketing to their business
plans. If you listen to their reasoning, the Internet might be
considered as the fax machine once was: unnecessary, unproven
and not cost effective. Well, today ignoring the benefits of an
Internet marketing strategy can cost them far more in lost
profits than choosing postal mail over faxes. Recently a study
was done to determine the top 3 reasons small businesses have
been reluctant to fully embrace the increasingly relevant
Internet in their marketing plans. The results showed similar
misconceptions on both sides of the Atlantic as to what Internet
marketing is, and what it can do for their business. Myth #1:
“My business doesn’t need Internet marketing” Lack of perceived
need was the most common reason offered up by the focus group
participants, but few successful business owners would ever say
that their business doesn’t need to advertise. Internet search
engine giant Yahoo!, whose advertising network reaches 80% of
active Internet users (Nielsen/NetRatings, 2004) has hundreds of
business categories in its directory right down to the smallest
niche businesses. The reality is that if you have a product or
service to sell, prospects are looking for it online, even if
the actual purchase is made offline. The objective is that your
website (or ad) be found when someone is looking to buy, and
today’s local search algorithms bring those local searches to
    you, the local business.

Myth #2: “Internet marketing is too expensive” It’s well
documented that small business owners are cost sensitive, but
it’s a misconception that Internet marketing is expensive. In
fact, Internet marketing solutions are in many cases
considerably less expensive than most traditional advertising
media that business owners are more familiar with. For example,
a modest display ad in a yellow page phone directory can cost a
company thousands of dollars per year while offering virtually
no way to target specific customers or track the quality of
leads produced (if any). With that kind of budget–or in most
cases considerably less–a Pay-for-Performance search engine
marketing campaign can deliver precisely targeted (they are
interested or they wouldn’t click) leads to a business’ website,
while documenting which ads produce which sales, and even
directly tying specific activities such as telephone calls,
e-mails, and/or online forms directly to a specific ad for
real-time analysis and action. Direct mail and print advertising
can be replaced or supplemented with email marketing and online
promotions for pennies on the dollar, again offering better
customer targeting and performance tracking capability. And
because Internet marketing solutions can be deployed far more
quickly than other forms of advertising, business owners are
better able to respond to changes in the marketplace and adjust
    on-the-fly.

Myth #3: “I don’t know where to start” For those small business
owners that do see the value in Internet marketing, not having
an Internet marketing strategy comes down to a matter of
choice–or too many choices. Unfamiliar with the topic, getting
help can be quite daunting. They can’t afford to make the wrong
decision, so sometimes they play it safe and stay out of the
game altogether. But that decision is shortsighted, and limits
their potential in today’s market. The best advice is to
approach the situation the way you would when seeking out help
in any other area: Ask around, get referrals from friends or
acquaintances; don’t make a decision based solely on price, and
beware of offers that sound too good to be true. Ask questions
about the company and their experience, and read through their
own website. Find out how long they’ve been in business and ask
for client testimonials and/or case studies. Also think about
whether they are locally based - it is much easier to get help
if they are close by and willing to visit your place of
    business.

As in the past, it’s important that business owners become
proactive and not let old thinking stifle their growth. The
internet has been called the great equalizer, and in many
respects epitomizes the very fabric of our free-market society.
Companies who continue to ignore Internet marketing
opportunities risk being left behind by competitors that have
looked past the myths and discovered that sometimes changing the
way things are done can be quite a profitable move.

Just What Is Optical Carrier (OC) Bandwidth?

Posted in WWW Resources by admin on the March 29th, 2008

Ever wonder just what the heck was an “OC48″? Not surprisingly many network engineers and IT managers aren’t up to speed (no pun intended) on just what OC really means…and what all is available to enahnce their company’s applications within this bandwidth category.

So….here’s a quick run down to set you straight.

The OC (optical carrier…fiber optic based broadband network )hierarchy goes as follows, starting with a T3/DS3 electrical carrier and then on to an OC-1:

    DS3 (Electrical) = 44.736mbits/sec = 28 T1s/DS1s

    STS1 (Electrical) = (1) DS3 @ 44.736mbits/sec with SONET (Synchronous Optical NET) overhead = 51.840mbits/sec

    OC-1 (Optical) = (1) STS1 on Optical facilities

    OC-3 = (3) OC-1s = 155.52mbits/sec

    OC-9 = (9) OC-1s (not commonly used) = 466.56mbits/sec

    OC-12 = (12) OC-1s or (4) OC-3s = 622.08mbits/sec

    OC-18 = (18) OC-1s (not commonly used) = 933.12mbits/sec

    OC-24 = (24) OC-1s (not commonly used) = 1.244gbits/sec

    OC-36 = (36) OC-1s (not commonly used) = 1.866gbits/sec

    OC-48 = (48) OC-1s or (4) OC-12s or (16) OC-3s = 2.488gbits/sec

    OC-192= (192) OC-1s or (4) OC-48s or (16) OC-12s or (64) OC-3s = 9.953gbits/sec

The reason for the stair-stepping of the OC Hierarchy is due to the fact that the next available level of multiplexing (’muxing”) of lower-level circuits is usually 4: (4) OC-3s = (1) OC-12, and (4) OC-48s = (1) OC-192.

This muxing scheme is usually dictated by the equipment manufacturers and is pretty much an adopted standard in the Telecom industry - hence the lack of the lesser-common bandwidth aggregations like OC-9, OC-18, etc. The only exception is the OC-3, which was needed to allow the upper-level hierarchy to work.

Hope this tidbit of info helps the network design decisions for your business now….and in the future!

Search Engine Optimization: Four Vital Steps For Optimizing Your Website

Posted in WWW Resources by admin on the March 20th, 2008

There is a bit of confusion about search engine optimization.
Some people think that SEO (the abbreviated form) is nothing
more than tricking search engines into giving a high ranking for
a particular site. Others think that search engine optimization
is so complex that they could not possibly understand it.
Neither of these views are correct. Search engine optimization
is best defined as the art and science of building web pages
that are both search engine friendly and user friendly. Below
are four basic steps that you should take when optimizing your
    web pages.

    1. Your web design should emphasize text and not graphics.

“Search engine friendly” means that search engines should be
able to find data on your site that they can put in their data
bases. While a picture may be worth a thousand words, a search
engine is trying to classify pages by text and not by images. If
you have an opening page with a beautiful picture of the sea and
only two words of text saying “enter here” then this page will
not rank high in searches for Florida Vacations. Similarly if
you have a headline with important text containing your site’s
keywords it should not be displayed as a gif or jpeg image.
Pages that are all flash or all images are not search engine
friendly, and often are not user friendly as well.

    2. Links to your interior pages should be easily found by search
    engines

An important thing to remember is that you want not only your
main page, but all of your interior pages to be included in the
search engine index. While most people will probably enter your
site through the main page, many will enter after doing searches
which lead them to your inner pages. The best way to make sure
that search engines will find and index your inner pages is to
include text links to these pages. If you have navigation system
which uses Java script or images, then it is best to add an
additional text link navigation bar at the bottom of the site to
ensure that the robot follows the links to your inner pages.

    3. Your pages should be built around specific keywords or
    keyword phrases

Robotic search engines and human users have one thing in common:
they are trying to figure out what your site or your particular
web page is all about. It is not possible to get high rankings
for thirty different search terms with only one web page.
However it is possible to build separate web pages which explain
and give importance to various aspects of your organization’s
activity. These sub pages can be optimized so that they perform
well in searches for your various keywords.

    4. Once your material is organized, then your keywords should
appear in strategic portions of your web pages

If your site is about Florida Vacations, then these words should
appear in the following places of your html pages:

    a. In the file name or the url.

If your site is called HREF="http://www.floridavacations.com" rel="nofollow">www.floridavacations.com A> then this will give you a head start in any searches for this
term. Similarly if your company is called XYZ Travels you may
have a web page with this url: HREF="http://www.xyztravels.com/floridavacations.html" rel="nofollow">www.xyztra
    vels.com/floridavacations.html

The url or file name is an important indicator to a search
engine, so don’t miss the opportunity to put your important term
either in your main domain name or in your file names.

    b. In the title tag

The text that is displayed in the blue line at the top of your
browser is your title tag. The title tag is located in the
section of the document. If your main phrase is “Florida
Vacations” then the title tag in your html document should look
something like this: Florida Vacations: Florida Vacation
    Information by XYZ travel

    c. In the Description tag

The description tag is not seen on the web page but search
engines often display it as the text which gives the searcher an
idea of what your page is about. The description tag should be
compelling, and make someone want to click and see your page,
while also containing the keywords that are in your url and your
title tag. A description tag for this site might look as
    follows:

    d. In the headlines

Just as someone reading a newspaper looks at headlines to find
out what is important, a search engine robot looks at the
headlines of a web page in order to pick up the essential
feature of that page. Put your main phrase in a headline and
place it near the top of the page. Your headline text should be
enclosed with special header tags such as , , . A headline tag
for our hypothetical page could be written as follows: Florida
Vacations: Plan Your Vacation Now And Save Money or
Accommodations, Entertainment and Transport in Florida

If you don’t like the look of the h1 tag, then use a smaller
tag, h2 or h3, or adjust your site ’s style sheet so that the h1
tag is displayed in a small font which better matches your body
    text.

    e. In the body text of your page

Your main keywords or key phrase should appear in the first
paragraph of text and in a natural way throughout the text and
also at the end of the page. In normal writing you would first
introduce your subject, then explain what it is about and then
summarize at the end. Follow this same procedure when you start
writing your web page. Pages written in this style will
automatically have correct keyword density and distribution.

    f. In anchor text on your page

Anchor text is the clickable portion of links on your web page.
Suppose you are describing your Florida Vacations and you want
to direct your web visitors to an inside page with more
information about this subject. Instead of making a link that
says “click here,” it would be better to have a link that says
“Click here for more information about Florida Vacations” or
even better, the link text will only be “Florida Vacations” and
the “click here” will be rendered as normal text.

If you follow these search-engine-optimization steps when
building your website you will end up with web pages that are
easily understood by your visitors, and easily classified and
    indexed by search engines.
