Information About the Wonderful Windsor Castle

Posted in Travel, Safaris, And More by admin on the June 17th, 2008

Windsor Castle is assumed to be the biggest occupied castles around & the eldest in nonstop occupation (well over 900 years). It is one of Queen Elizabeth’s 3 official homes, & is frequently said to be the Queens most liked home. The Royal colours flies above the Round Tower of Windsor Castle as soon as Queen Elizabeth is at the residence - whereas, at other periods, the Union Jack flag flies instead.

Samuel Pepys remarked Windsor Castle to be “the solitary most idealistic castle on the planet.” That was thought in sixteen-sixty-six & the comparable has been said today.

Windsor Castle Wealthy History:

The building of Windsor can be found lying in the early seventh century Saxon village of Windlesora, where the contemporary day village of Old Windsor is located. The town of Windsor is generally recognised as the “New Windsor” - the actual word “new” being taken in a loose sense!

Windsor Castle was at the beginning erected by the notorious William the Conqueror, owing to his hit of England in ten sixty-six. The original building was assembled from lumber with sol barricades. Windsor Castle held a comprehensible strategic location on a steep hill on top of the River Thames, & was a fraction of an assortment of palaces around the Capital, with the Tower of London, one day’s trek away, at its middle. For a special family day out, visit Windsor Castle UK today.

The Palace was later redesigned in stone, & increased in value over the subsequent centuries. Henry II redesigned the Round Tower & the original stone outer wall. After the English Civil War, the Castle’s main function became that of a royal house. Windsor Castle has remained generally unbothered from the early nineteenth century, apart from the refurbishment work following the horribly fire.

Nepalese climber, 77, oldest climber to scale Mt Everest

Posted in Adventure Stuff, Sports Tips + More, Travel, Safaris, And More by admin on the June 8th, 2008

He was reported in good health as he began making his descent. Now that Bahadur Sherchan has successfully scaled the tallest mountain in the world, he is once again ready to focus on his family. Sherchan just 21 days away from his 77th birthday beat the age record set last year by 71-year-old Japanese teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa.

Indeed, he was all too aware of the potential dangers the mountain could bring. Certain parts of the climb are more dangerous than others and it is important for climbers to remain focused Andrew Brash returned this week from Nepal after successfully climbing to the summit of Mt Everest. His first found him within 195 metres of the peak when his team stopped to help a fellow mountaineer who was left for dead. later, Min Bahadur Sherchan, a University of Calgary alumni, returned to Everest to finish what he had started.

More than 3217 people have climbed to the summit since it was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary, who died in January, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay.

The Chinese were flying their airplanes over the mountain and had Chinese officials in Kathmandu. Andrew Brash last attempt resulted in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, an Australian climber who was left by his team in the “death zone.”

“Chomolungma or Mount Everest this year became a political pawn,” he said with some frustration.

Andrew Brash and four climbing guides reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meters) summit of the world’s highest mountain early Sunday, said Ramesh Chretri, an official with Nepal’s ministry of tourism. Therefore, the decision to actualize a long-time personal goal left Min Bahadur Sherchan with some internal uncertainties, he cited the political actions of China and Nepal as providing the greatest adversity he faced on his journey. With the Chinese preparing for the impending summer Olympic Games, Bahadur Sherchan noted that the government’s actions hardly reflected the Olympic spirit. The 77-year-old man from Nepal is now the oldest person to have reached the top of Mount Everest. “The Chinese weren’t allowing anybody on the mountain. They ended up commandeering it for themselves, even though the mountain is shared by two countries. This year French alpinist Anthony Loeff is reporting the scales for the Mount Everest after reaching the summit of Mont Blanc earlier this season.

They basically coerced the Nepali government to not allow any climbers past camp two on the Nepali side. Hall was frostbitten and severely disoriented due to altitude sickness. Min Bahadur Sherchan returned a hero to Calgarians. As he planned for the climb, Sherchan told reporters he wanted to inspire fellow senior citizens. He also said many Nepalese have established records on Chomolungma, so it was only fitting that the record for the oldest climber to reach the summit should also belong to a Nepali. They flexed their muscles this year all the in name of the Olympic spirit, but it was hardly spirited at all.”

Money Saving Tips for Girls on the Go

Posted in Travel, Safaris, And More by admin on the June 1st, 2008

Travel doesn’t have to be expensive. Sure, it takes more effort to save money on the
road, but when you are a hard working gal with dreams of hoofing it across
continents, sometimes those pennies saved can mean the difference between out on
the road or broke at home. Here are a few tips to help you get the most for less
while your seeing the world.

Get that AAA membership. It may sound like something your mom would tell you to
do, but it’s worth every penny. For about $45 a year, you get free help if your car
breaks down and serious discounts on hotels, motels and museums. You even get a
discount on Amtrak. I recently took my mom to the beach, and the cash my AAA
card saved me on hotels for that one trip more than paid for the membership fee.

Bring a friend. Not only is it safer and more fun to travel with a friend, it’s cheaper.
You can split the cost of gas and hotels, making travel almost half the price of going
solo.

Food Smarts. Eating out costs a pretty penny. If you’re going to eat out, do lunch
then eat dinner in your hotel room. Lunch is always cheaper. When you go out, ask
around and find out where the locals eat, or look for mom and pop diners or ethnic
neighborhoods full of authentic and inexpensive cuisine.

Buy bottles of water and snacks at the local grocery store before heading out to
sightsee. The same stuff will cost you half as much as it will in tourist areas or
convenience stores. You may want to keep a handy dandy cooler packed with sodas,
water and fruits in your car. Fill it up with treats before you hit the road and just
refill the ice from the hotel ice machine.

The best food is often local food. Locate the farmer’s market and the local bakeries.
Stop at the bakery for some bread, then stop by the farmer’s market for fresh
veggies and cheese and soon you’ll have the fixins for a healthy, fresh lunch for
much less than the cost of eating in a restaurant.

Hotels/motels. If you can, stop by a truck stop or travel center on your way into
town. They always have racks of free coupon magazines that can save you a few on
accommodations. And they usually contain a map of the area too.

At Roomsavers.com, you can also download coupons for hotels. Of course, traveling
during the week instead of on weekends will save you on your hotel bill, too.

If you decide to stay in the locally owned, non-chain motel ( which will usually be a
better deal) ask to see the room before you pay for it. You don’t want to stay
somewhere too icky or unsafe just to save a few bucks. When you do find a place,
work that AAA discount.

Remember there’s always a hostel. Hostels are almost always the cheapest way to
go for single travelers. Sometimes it can be cheaper than a motel for two people.

Another new option is house swapping. If you live in a reasonably interesting place,
chances are pretty good you can trade apartments with someone in another city for
a week or two. Check Craigslist or one of the many house-swapping organizations
for more information and to see if it’s right for you.

And if you have tent, will travel. You can park your tent on a spot with water and
electricity for as little as $10 a night. Throw an air mattress in there and you can
camp like a queen!

There are usually state parks, private campgrounds and national parks with camp
sites near most major cities and along major highways, making them a convenient
lodging option. Many parks have cabins with kitchenettes, where you can sleep up
to eight people for as little as $20 a night.

Travel during the off times
The best way to stretch your travel dollar is to travel during off-peak times. That
means when schools are in session and not during three day holiday weekends,
when the legions of people tied to 9 to 5 jobs maximize vacation days.

You’ll always get a better deal if you travel during the week, not on weekends, or
during a city’s slow tourism season. For instance, the beach will be cheaper in May
and September than June through August. New Orleans and Las Vegas are cheaper
during the summer because their high season is winter.

Remember, hotels raise their rates on Friday and Saturday nights. Some rates nearly
double. Travel Sunday to Thursday if you can. You’ll save serious money on lodging.
You’ll also avoid long lines and crowds at local attractions, and maybe save a few
cents a gallon on gasoline.

Summer is universally the peak season, and prices for rooms, shows, gas, airfare
and just about everything else are higher from May through August. If you can travel
from September to April, you’ll save a lot more money. If you’re considering a
European trip, you’ll cut your airfare in half and will have your pick of inexpensive
lodging, entertainment and transportation.

Book early
In most cases, you can get primo rates and first pick when you book early and
you’re more likely to lock in the best airfare and hotel rates. You also may have the
option of putting down a deposit and paying your trip off in installments instead of
putting it on a credit card and paying interest.

Use the Web
Many times, booking rental cars, hotel rooms and airline flights on the Web, directly
through the hotels or airline’s Web sites will net you the best deal. Always try to
book directly first, rather than through a broker, then try Priceline , Travelocity or
Orbitz to see which has the best deal. You may also try your hand at
BiddingforTravel.com, a Priceline message board designed to help you get the best
possible deals for travel.

Yes, You Too Can Take A Vacation

Posted in Travel, Safaris, And More by admin on the May 31st, 2008

Surveys are interesting. I took note of this one done recently by American Express because it backed up some data I learned at the (National Association of Female Executives) NAFE National Conference in May. According to the survey, 40% of the smallest business owners - those with less than $200,000 in annual revenues - are planning no vacation whatsoever this summer. But even business owners with higher revenues aren’t doing much better - only 75% of them expect to get away from the business this summer.

As we were told at the NAFE Conference, even those business owners who do get away from the office, won’t truly get away. Rather, one in three will link their vacation time to a business trip and 50% will still check in with the office at least once a day.

Why can’t business owners let go? What are the concerns that keep them tied to the business? According to the survey:

* An important client or customer will not receive appropriate service
* The business will miss out on a new opportunity
* There is no other competent person to leave in charge
* The individuals left in charge will make the wrong decisions
* An operational or equipment breakdown will occur without anyone to solve the problem

Such concerns are not surprising. It is hard for a business owner to take any type of vacation worry-free. But with planning, preparation and good leadership you can boost the enjoyment level of your time off to come back refreshed and ready to tackle new challenges and opportunities. Here are 8 steps to prevent vacation angst.

1. Make a plan - To avoid surprises, create a list of scenarios on your current projects and brief your staff on the possibilities and your major concerns about each client. Assign specific staff to each client/account so there is someone that clients can speak to who understands their concerns when you aren’t there.

2. Brief your key clients or customers - Offer them advance notice of any extended absence you are planning. There’s no reason to keep your vacation schedule a secret. Introduce them to your deputy and convey your confidence in their ability to handle any issues that may arise. If appropriate, consider letting them know how to reach you should a true emergency arise - not that one will because of all your pre-planning.

3. Leadership is being a delegator not a dictator - If you never delegate important tasks to others, you can’t expect them to be ready to fill your shoes when you want to take time off. To create a saner situation and build confidence that good things will happen when you aren’t there, learn to delegate responsibilities - divvy up those pieces that must still happen in your absence and postpone those that can wait for your return.

4. Strategically schedule your vacation time - Most businesses have a slow season or times of the year when the pace is slower, or at least a bit less crazy. Plan your vacations to coincide with those lulls.

5. Mini-Vacations - If you just can’t let go of the business for a whole week or two, or you can’t bear to be too far away from the office, try taking a few days out of town, or extend a weekend somewhere else. Even a brief escape from routine with a change of scenery can do wonders for your perspective and re-energize you.

6. Disconnect entirely - When you do take a vacation: turn off your cell phone, don’t bring the laptop, don’t check your email, don’t bring work with you and avoid the temptation to call or visit the office to “check up” on what’s happening. If there’s an emergency they can’t handle, they will find you.

7. Take time off to sharpen skills - If you just can’t justify taking time off to kick back and relax, then take time off to learn something new - business or personal. Taking continuing education courses at a local college or business school is a low-cost and effective way to break from your office routine, be with new people and try new things. Some programs are 3-5 days off-site if that fits your schedule better.

8. Keep your priorities straight - When you go through the exercise of listing the things you really care about, is your business really #1, 2, and 3? Outside of work, your priorities might be connecting with family and friends, spending time with kids, cultivating personal interests, staying healthy or pursuing an avocation. To regain balance in your life, you need to keep work, family and personal time in perspective. Those other priorities help you find more enjoyment in your time away from the business.

Let me know if these tips help you take a well-deserved vacation (or two) this summer.

Disney In One Day … Is It Possible ?

Posted in Travel, Safaris, And More by admin on the April 30th, 2008

As a Florida villa owner, this is one of the most commonly asked questions I receive from guests. In truth, there is no definitive answer. Various factors will affect your ability to seek out all that Disney has to offer within a limited timescale, but with a little common sense and some handy tips, you’ll certainly be on track to achieving your goal!

So here is a list of ideas to help smooth your day:

1: Ensure everyone has a hearty breakfast. The “all you can eat breakfast buffets” are very popular, or diners such as Dennys offer excellent value for money.

2: Buy your Disney tickets in advance to save valuable time standing in line at the ticket window when you arrive at your chosen park.

3: Choose which Disney Park you are going to visit. Fairly obvious ~ But you would be amazed how many families just head off to Disney, and then decide in the car ! Not conducive to good debate or safe driving !

4: Arrive early. Check the park times and arrive when the gates open. It will give you a head start on those guests who take a leisurely breakfast and arrive mid morning.

5: Pick up a couple of park maps and timetables at the park entrance. This way if any members of your party decide to split up, you can easily arrange a meeting point to find each other again, as there is no excuse for getting lost.

6: Talking of getting lost. Don’t allow members of your group to just wander off. Before anyone separates from your group for whatever reason, decide on a specific meeting point, to link up again. Many valuable minutes can be wasted looking for a “wanderer” !

7: When you enter the park, go straight to the farthest attraction, and work backwards toward the front entrance during the day.

8: If you travel in a counter clockwise direction around the parks, your journey time will be quicker, as most folks enter a park and turn right ~ it’s a right handed thing !)

9: Decide ahead of time which attractions if any you want to miss out, and any that are definite must sees.

10: Co-ordinate your travels in conjunction with the various parades and shows that are continually being performed throughout the day.

11: Take advantage of Disney’s Fast Pass service, which allows you to avoid the lines at the more popular attractions, by giving you a designated ride time. Details are available at the entrance to all participating rides.

12: There is usually one big afternoon parade and up to two night time parades. However, if parades are not your thing, these times are an excellent opportunity to visit other attractions, as the majority of guests will be out on the streets waving at Mickey Mouse !

13: Taking a supply of nutritional snacks and fruit will save you time and money, as opposed to waiting in restaurants.

14: Use the Tip Boards. All Disney parks have Tip Boards, showing the average wait time for each attraction. This information is updated regularly throughout the day.

15: Save any shopping until you are ready to exit the park. Shops will stay open for at least an hour after the park officially closes, and if you buy your souvenirs as you exit, it will save you having to carry them around the park all day !

So is it possible to “do Disney in a day” ? Probably not ! Although the above tips will give you a better chance than “Mr and Mrs Average”. Seasoned veterans of theme parks may be able to notch up every ride and attraction on their visit, but they have the advantage of being on familiar territory.

The good news however is that there is always something different, new and exciting to see, experience and explore in a Disney park, so even if you don’t manage to cross off everything on your theme park list, there is no better excuse for a return visit at a more leisurely pace !
