saying about reality television because the popularity has
staying power that is here forever.

There will always be a new reality show coming out, with new
ideas coming from every aspect of life and there are even
television stations dedicated to reality TV 24 hours a day.

But how long can this golden run go on? The short answer is
indefinitely, as there is something of a stand off in place. The
viewers ask that question, and the producers also ask that
question, and both sides continue to watch and create the
programs.

Who will crack first? When will they crack? With the huge
success of many shows, it is not going to be anytime soon. But
what about this huge success?

In terms of the individual success of one show, it will have
little to do with the overall popularity of the genre. The run
away success of The Simpsons didn’t stop others producing
animation, just as the wild success of one Reality show won’t
stop others from being made.

The big attraction to Reality TV is the audience involvement.
They are watching real people and invest in them emotionally.
Anyone who invests their time emotionally, isn’t going to just

In my opinion reality TV show writers are just that; “writers”
but they are also creators as well which is an interesting
duality that is really unique to them. Everyone has got an idea
but who is able to lay it out so a producer can envision their
show idea, who knows the ins and out and which hoops to jump
through. Who knows what will be a colossal waste of time and at
the same time knows exactly the proper path to take? The path
that can lift your idea from just an idea to a simple proper one

right fashion, without smacking of desperation and looking as if
it has been put together by someone lacking experience…

Even after that person is removed from the show, we want to make
sure that our least favorite person doesn’t win.

The next element is the climax. Once we are drawn in to the show
they have to keep us interested enough to see what will happen
next week. By eliminating one person each week we have to watch
to make sure that we don’t miss an important piece of the game.
Reality TV gives us that climax each week and keeps us in
suspense until the very end of each show. Ever notice how during
votes they set it up so that the vote count stays pretty even
until the very last possible moment? For example, if 3 people
vote for Bob and 4 people vote for Dan then it will always be
shown as three votes for Bob and three votes for Dan. Only then
will they show the deciding vote. They do this in order to
continue building a climax through suspense and anticipation
until the very last moment.

The last element is a grand conclusion. At one point there was a
“never ending” reality show that hit the air. Why was it not
successful? Because we want to see it end. We need to see that
final episode that crowns a winner. What is the point of
watching a competition and never seeing a final result? That
defeats the point of competition. So the producers work up to
this grand conclusion all season long. It is often the
discussion of many people in the workplace and is common topic
that even uncommon people share. Who will win? Who will lose?
Who do we want to win? Who do we want to lose? Who do we hate?
Who do we love? The producers always make a grand production of
the end of a reality show and give us the answers we have
sought. More often than not, they even give us extra by bringing
back all of the contestants and allowing us to hear answers to
the things that we may have asked them ourselves.

But even with all of these things that draw us into “Reality”
television, the biggest by far is seeing the “average” person on
television. Everyone would love to live the life of a star. We
want to be recognized on the street and to feel important. By
seeing the average person on television every week and getting
to know them, we are living out our own fantasies. What a grand
idea to put on shows with real people who we can all relate to.
Not to mention that we all feel that maybe, just maybe, if we
applied to our favorite show we could be a contestant too. If
the producers can see some potential in some of their past
contestants then surely they can see some potential in the rest
of us.

Viagra. That one word packs a lot of punch. Let’s face it; there is little that has been derided more than Viagra. On the talk shows, it has been the butt of more jokes than Michael Jackson and Saddam Hussein combined. For example:

(OK, OK. I admit I was going to share an example or two, but I couldn’t find any clean enough to pass my censor’s well-trained eyes.)

Of course, if you are not laughing yet from the jokes you could imagine I might have told, it may be because you are so fed up of receiving offers for Viagra in your email inbox, right up there with the prospect of enhancing body parts you didn’t even know you owned. In fact, you may even be convinced that spam was invented just to deliver the Viagra industry’s message to your personal desktop.

Can anything good come from Viagra?

As a matter of fact, yes. Scientists have actually found a benefit from Viagra (No, I am not talking about experimenting in their labs.) Apparently Viagra is good for the environment.

It took a lot of work and several failed attempts to reach this conclusion. First, the scientists tried to use Viagra as an additive to revive lakes that were dying from acid rain. Unfortunately, it raised the lake’s body temperature and fried the fish.

Then they tried using Viagra to replace polluting dry cleaner chemicals, but clothes came back too rigid to wear: “Hey, how come my fleece isn’t soft anymore?” “I thought I told you not to starch my collars.” “Ouch!”

The researchers tried feeding Viagra to swine, cattle, and chickens, hoping to replace feed sources that now consume vast areas of land. However, the farm animals wouldn’t touch the stuff. The cockroaches, however, found it energizing, and before long there were very few barns left.

Next they decided to see if Viagra could be used as a low-polluting fuel to heat homes in the winter. That option looked promising … until airplanes started hitting the rising chimney stacks. Oops.
Then the scientists tried offering Viagra to all the taxi drivers who insisted on idling their polluting engines between fares. Unfortunately, it seems that most cab drivers preferred idling to anything Viagra could do for them (which may explain the way they drive.)

Finally, the researchers have discovered that Viagra can save endangered species. This is no joke - check the wire services on the Internet. In fact, a paper published recently by researchers at the University of Alaska and the University of New South Wales reveals that the trade in exotic body parts used as aphrodisiacs has fallen dramatically since Viagra hit the market.

Rhinos love this, because poachers had made them almost extinct, killing them for the horn, so sought-after by the lovelorn, and leaving the carcass behind. Reindeer feel more secure about their antlers now, too, since the velvet coverings are in less demand. And you may already have noticed fewer seals walking around town with their legs crossed, as the price for their private parts has fallen 72 percent.

Others who are thrilled about this great scientific discovery include sea horses, pipefish, elk and the ever beloved sea cucumber. I am still not sure whether that last one is a joke.

So, is Viagra the butt of countless jokes or the scourge of the Internet? If you look for silver linings, it is neither. It is the savior of endangered species. Now that I’ve helped clear that up for you, what else do you deride? What else upsets you? Can you find a silver lining? I’m sure you can. If Viagra is a good thing, can there be anything bad?

After the War: Entire 2004 Nobel Peace Prize Applied to Start New United Nations Sanctioned Institution Dedicated to Enduring Peace

The concept of high level government commissions established to protect strict fundamentalist ultra-conservative authoritarian societies from harmful effects of lax permissive free democratic societies may be an useful United Nations tool to promote international cooperation and peace.

My idea for high-level government commissions to protect ultra-conservative religious societies from harmful effects of democracy has great potential to create enduring peace. Creation of enduring peace will save the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and the United Nations trillions of dollars of lost revenue. The trillions of dollars saved will help achieve my stated goal of establishing a proposed new Not-for-Profit dedicated to decreasing the cost of living for the average working class American.

Instead of using the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize award to directly establish my proposed new Not-for-Profit Foundation, Wonderful Life Foundation, I am willing to allow the entire Nobel Peace Prize financial award to be used to establish a new institute, sanctioned by the United Nations, dedicated to exploring issues pertaining to how to protect ultra-conservative authoritarian societies from harmful adverse effects of lax permissive moral trends within western culture.

My only stipulation is that I will be recognized as the secondary author of this peace initiative. The primary author can be a Muslim Scholar, currently residing in the United States, who may possess tremendous knowledge and expertise regarding Middle East and Western culture. Recognition as secondary author of a peace initiative that may capture the Nobel Peace Prize Award will give me creditability in academic and business circles that will be of tremendous value toward reaching my goal of starting the proposed Not-for-Profit Foundation.

The democratization process can be applied to protect strict fundamentalist ultra conservative religious Arab Middle East societies from harmful adverse effects of westernization. The fundamental nature of the concept of democracy is that a people are free to decide upon a form of government chosen by the people.

The concept of democracy as applied to the Middle East may be entirely different than the concept of democracy in western culture. The United States is referred to as a “melting pot” of a wide variety of world cultures. As a melting pot of a variety of world cultures, society within the United States of America includes a wide array of belief systems.

Ultra conservative religious societies of the Middle East consist primarily of variations of Islam, and a minority of other religious sects. The degree of variation between different Islamic factions is much smaller than the vast differences found among groups in western culture. Hence, the concept of democracy applied to the Middle East may very well be nearly equivalent and approximate the ultra conservative Islamic Religious Monarchies currently found throughout the Middle East region.

In the case of Iraq, hopefully a new government can be established that will be more cooperative with Arab neighbors as well as the entire global community. Hopefully, the new government of Iraq will not be bent on martyrdom of the entire earth in the final battle of Armageddon. Iraq President Saddam Hussien stated he intended to start “the mother of all wars”. Hopefully, the new Iraq government will not be intent upon disrupting mutually beneficial interdependent business relationships occurring between Arab Middle East Nations and Nations throughout the global community.

After the war, nations that are currently involved in military intervention in Iraq should extend the Olive Branch of Peace to France, Russia, Germany, Asian Countries, and all other nations who vigorously opposed war in the United Nations Assembly.

An ancient proverb from days of old is, “Men sharpen men, as iron sharpens iron”. Nations that vigorously opposed war in the United Nations Assembly have a very valid viewpoint. Nations who sought peace within the framework of realism and, subsequently are engaged in military conflict inside Iraq, also have a very valid viewpoint.

Given the Iraqi pattern of military aggression in the Middle East, it should not be difficult for anyone to understand why the Bush Administration considered Iraq a credible military threat. The billions of dollars the United States spends in the Middle East can be used by Iraq to finance a military campaign to destroy the United States.

The world needs checks and balances in international relationships. The movement toward globalization, enabled by increasingly powerful telecommunications technology, highlights the need for checks and balances in international relationships. It is for this reason, after the war, the United Nations should help the new Iraq government establish normalized mutually beneficial business relationships with all European nations, including France, Russia, Germany, China, Japan, all other Asian Countries, as well as the United States. At this point in history, it is important to keep the playing field level, for the well being of the Middle East, Europe, Asia and the United States of America.

The new government of Iraq may chose to use huge profits generated by export of oil to Europe, Asia, and the United States to help its Arab neighbor, the New Palestinian State, build schools, manufacturing facilities, hospitals, and homes. It will be much better for the new government of Iraq to invest in the infrastructure of the new state of Palestine than perpetuate the cycle of violence by financing suicide bombings.

The future discovery of full assembler based nanotechnology may one day, in the distant future, introduce a new class of highly efficient machinery that will allow the European Union to take up the economic slack in the event the United States is disposed. Full assembler based nanotechnology exist in the realm of the far distant future. Full assembler based nanotechnology may never be possible.

Since a new class of manufacturing machinery capable of taking up the economic slack in the event the United States is disposed is not currently available, the only other alternative to increase gross national product of the European Union is to require excessive amounts of overtime for the European workforce. If an excessive amount of overtime is forcefully imposed upon the European workforce than massive socioeconomic instability may occur in Europe.

As pointed out above, full assembler based nanotechnology may never be possible. In the event the United States is destroyed, the ability of the new United European Superpower to take up the economic slack may be delayed for many decades, even if full assembler based nanotechnology is discovered. Adoption of new classes of efficient manufacturing machinery may create socioeconomic problems associated with replacement of one industry by another new industry. An uneasy transition from old to new processes may create social turmoil within the new United European Superpower.

The history of Europe includes a mixture of ideology with strong authoritarian themes. The hodgepodge of European ideology may lead to public acceptance of a state religion in a new United European Superpower undergoing social turmoil.

Acceptance of a state religion combined with social turmoil that may occur as a consequence of socioeconomic problems associated with adoption of new classes of highly efficient manufacturing machinery may lead to ascendancy of a powerful dictator controlling the new United European Superpower. The dictator controlling the United European Superpower may be tenfold more dangerous than Saddam Hussien.

In the meantime, conflicts between ultra conservative monarchies of Middle East Nations may continue to erupt. The dictator controlling the new United European Superpower may decide to put an end to all Middle East Conflicts by a clean military sweep through the entire Middle East region.

The moral of the story is that Arab oil producing nations of the Middle East will have to do business with one society or another if the Middle East desires to have a future. The only other alternative may be genocide. It seems that the most sensible logical approach is to (1) preserve traditional Muslim values of giving all due praise and worship to Allah, and (2) learning to adapt to change in the world without compromising traditional Muslim values.

The United Nations should declare major goals of (1) social stability and (2) dedication to basic fundamental human rights.

Are you sick of reality TV shows and the rest of the garbage that makes up the TV schedule these days?

Oh yes, there are still a few classics around such as CSI, but many people would agree that ninety per cent of what’s on these days is hardly worth watching.
