Secret Reasons Why Some Businesses Can Afford to Bid Ridiculous, Amounts On Pay-Per-Click Keywords
The other day I was talking to one of my consulting clients on the phone about the return on investment from his Google Adwords campaign. And, he asked me a question that I get several times a week from clients and other online marketers.
His question was…
“Eric, how on earth can my competitors afford to bid over $4 per click for the number one position on the top keywords for my niche?! I can’t make a profit on those keywords at just $2.00 per click!”
His concern is a common one among businesses that use pay-per-click advertising to generate traffic. It seems that the top positions in most competitive markets are reserved for businesses with more money than sense.
I explained to him that short term his best strategy is to just cast a broader net with his keywords by expanding his keyword list to include thousands of less competitive, yet still targeted phrases, by using tools like WordTracker or Ad Word Analyzer.
However, to remain competitive long term he needs to address the real reason that his competition can afford to bid $4 per click and still make a profit…
There are only 4 reasons that another business can bid higher than you on pay-per-click ads.
- They have very deep pockets and very dumb marketing managers. You usually find this in businesses that are used to blowing their offline marketing budget on unaccountable “image advertising”. While there are a few like this in every market, these are not the ones you need to be concerned with. The dangerous competitors are the next two…
- They earn more profit from each sale than you. If you are making a $10 profit selling an ebook, yet your competition is earning a $100 profit selling a set of DVDs and a printed manual, then (all else being equal) your competition should be able to afford to bid 10 times what you can per click.
- They are making their real money on the “back end”. It is not uncommon for savvy marketers to sell a lower ticket item up front, and only break even or sometimes even take a loss, when they know that they can then upsell a good percentage of those customers on a higher ticket item later. Using pay-per-click advertising as a lead generation or list building method for future follow up is actually one of the most effective uses for this method of marketing.
- They convert more of their traffic into buyers than you do. Even if you are both selling the exact same item at the exact same price, if your competition converts 5% of their traffic into sales and you only convert 1%… Well, it’s no wonder that they can afford a $5 bid on “blue widget” when you are loosing money bidding $1.25.
For example:
Site “A” is making a profit of $10 per sale and converts 1 out of every 100 visitors.
This site can afford to bid only $0.10 per click to just break even.
Site “B” is making a profit of $100 per sale. If they also convert 1 out of 100 visitors, then this site can afford to bid $1.00 per click to break even. (Better yet, they can bid $0.50 per click and earn a 100% return on investment!)
You can get a pretty good idea who has the best converting website in any given market by watching the Google Adwords listings in that particular keyword niche for a few weeks. Unless they are one of those “more dollars than brains” marketers, the sites that constantly stay near the top long term are the ones that are generating the highest value per visitor.
The only way to compete long term on the super expensive keywords is to maintain a continuous focus on improving both conversion rates and average profit per sale.

Earning from PPC Search Engine Affiliate Programs
What are PPC Search Engines?
PPC Search Engines are search engines that allow advertisers to list their site within their search results on a pay per click basis. Advertisers bid against other advertisers for the same keywords or phrases. The highest bidder will then have their site ranked #1 in the PPC Search Engine results for a certain keyword followed by the second highest bidder for the same keyword followed by the third highest bidder for the same keyword, etc.
When a visitor then does a search in the PPC Search Engine and clicks on an advertisers bided link, the advertisers account will then get deducted for that click. This only happens once per unique visitor. So if that same visitor clicked on the same advertisers bided link twice, then the advertisers account will only get deducted for the first click.
Why is it easier to earn from PPC Search Engines than other affiliate programs?
PPC Search Engine affiliate programs are a good and easy way to earn some quick cash online. It is a lot easier to earn from PPC Search Engines than most other affiliate programs because you earn from your visitors click-thru’s to an advertisers site and not per action or sale.
Where can I find PPC Search Engines that offer affiliate programs?
There are only a few good resources on the Internet that lists a large amount of PPC Search Engines. Most of these are either outdated where they have a lot of PPC Search Engines that don’t exist anymore or only mainly gives information about a PPC Search Engines advertising offers.
If you were looking to join some PPC Search Engines that offer affiliate programs so that you can earn some quick and easy cash, then a useful resource to use would be http://www.affiliateseeking.com/ppcaff.php.
This is because it lists over 375 PPC Search Engines where you can easily compare what each PPC Search Engines affiliate program has to offer and you can even organize the PPC Search Engines results by Date Added, Minimum Payout, Earnings, etc.
I have joined a PPC Search Engine. How do I go about advertising it so that I can earn from it?
Once you have joined a PPC Search Engine, you can then easily get promotional links/ material from the affiliate section of the PPC Search Engine account where you can then use them to advertise the PPC Search Engine that you have joined.
Most PPC Search Engines allow you to advertise them by using search boxes, an xml feed, text links, referral links, banners, a portal page, and more.

A Bottle or no?
Are you a bottled or a bottle less water cooler fan? Though both essentially deliver the same service, as you get your daily water, both hot and cold, from either model, the look is very different. The water cooler company is the leading specialist in plumbed water coolers. These are the mains-fed varieties, which have to be installed by a trained technician- the water cooler company supplies this service. They also have to be regularly sanitised (once every three months ideally), and they have to be serviced and maintained to make sure they are always operating correctly. These water coolers tend to look sleeker and more modern than the bottled variety, which maybe something that appeals to you, or something that repels you in every way. The bottled variety are the types you are likely to be more familiar with. Complete with big blue plastic upturned bottle, this style is much more recognisable and classic. Alan Sugar will tell you that. On the Apprentice, he opts for a bottled variety cooler, the Zenith model to be precise. Perhaps this is a clear indication that we should all follow suit. If you want a professional looking office environment, opt for a bottle water cooler.

Party Supplies
Parties are arranged to express a feeling of joy and happiness so they need to be attractive and colorful. That would give your guests a pleasant environment to enjoy. Party Supplies are items used for this purpose. The items used to decorate your parties and make them colorful are referred as Party Supplies. They may include balloons, cake accessories, candles, gift wrap, lights, music, ribbon, wearables and etc.
Most of these supplies are to make children happy with different colorful ribbons, lots of lighting and decorations. As children are impressed by different cartoon characters, they love to dress up like them. Another idea could be using removable tattoos so that kids can use their desired character. In order to make the party interesting, make colorful goody bags. First of all you need to create some paper bags at home. Use a bright colored paper to make the bag. You can make the handles by super-gluing a colored strand of thread or even wooden sticks for the bag. Now you need to think of various options to fill the goody bags.
Music is supposed to be the soul of a party. One needs to be very careful in selection of the party music because different people like different kinds of music. Best practice is to select an on going hit party music which is better than playing your own favorite list.
Some may think that it’s a waste of money or a silly practice to follow, but partying is a good way of expressing our social side of human nature. One should be social enough to share his/her happiness with others too. As the party trend is growing, this industry seems to be growing.
Short Guide to the Gambling Pastimes Betters like to Take Part in: Betting Establishment Wagering
Assuming you don’t comprehend casino games, then be sure to peruse the following.
A definition of a gaming room is a building that organizes card-playing. Here, aficionados are expected to test their luck by challenging coin-operated machines or plenty of other pastimes. Gaming establishment games on the whole include precisely determined likelihoods governing them which ensure the betting house holds on to the upper hand over the betting fans.
Many betting saloon games encourage you to get obsessed in no time. There is the classic one armed bandit, a cash operated gadget with three plus gears that pirouette once a lever on the side is tugged. The appliance most often recompenses in accordance with a series of symbols observable on the display of the instrument. Deplorably, gambling saloon games present an appearance of domination, conning the gaming devotee — the addressee is challenged with options, but actually they won’t compensate for the patron’s overall odds. This is caused by the the casino not returning the full wager as hoped for. This systematic process is notoriously noticeable in well known casino games like seven card stud poker, craps, roulette or blackjack.
Seven-card stud poker is undeniably an immensely fashionable casino game. The gaming fans, holding partially guarded hands, make wagers in a central pot that is finally awarded to the last punter controlling the highest hand. (Obviously, the bluffing hand may win as well!)
Similar to five card stud poker, blackjack is also a highly popular casino game. Much of its popularity is a result of its particular mix of chance and expertise and decision making, as well as a practise labeled card counting. This is a craft by which gaming enthusiasts may significantly bend the winning odds of the game to establish the upper hand both by betting and tactical actions in correlation to the cards deployed.
“Craps” is a famous game involving the roll of a couple of dice. Patrons must risk their stakes on the score of 1 roll, or on a succession of spins of two dice. Dissimilar to blackjack, there isn’t any possible killer system people could profit from to bend the odds.
Roulette is a famous casino based game; a croupier rotates a roulette wheel that contains a set of exactly 37 (classical roulette) or precisely thirtyeight (as applicable to American roulette) uniquely marked slots in which the tossed pellet must settle, thus signifying the final winning number When the player happens to wager on a specific number and is successful meaning he is in luck, the guaranteed repayment is thirty-five to 1, the initial wager proper will be rebated. Therefore in total it is increased by thirty-six.
7 Secrets for Pay-Per-Click Success
“Pay-for-Performance” or “Pay-per-Click” Internet advertising is making big waves lately, and the two biggest players are Google and Overture, which was recently purchased by Yahoo. Microsoft has since joined the fray with MSN Search and there are numerous other fish (albeit tadpoles) in the pond.
When it comes to promotion, the advantages of internet advertising over traditional print advertising can be summed up with the following acronym-rich equation: CPC - CPM = PPC. That’s CMO-speak for expressing how much more cost effective cost-per-conversion analysis is to cost-per-thousand analysis.
With Pay Per Click advertising via Google and Overture, the cost of the ad is based upon the performance of the ad; however, the effectiveness of the ad is gauged by its conversion ratio. Thanks to tools provided by both Google and Overture, these conversion ratios can be calculated automatically.
Traditional print media, on the other hand, provides a CPM (cost per thousand) to demonstrate cost (value) of an ad. A certain number of people will see the ad (and believe me, this number is pie-in-the-sky, based upon circulation times “readership”). Therefore, the cost is X.
It’s easy to recognize the advantages of pay per click advertising, but before jumping head first into the PPC arena, review the following tips:
1) Be aware of the differences between Google and Overture
Google is the leading search engine at the moment, but their reach never exceeds their grasp. Overture technology, on the other hand, currently extends to Yahoo, AltaVista, CNN, Infospace, and others. Overture requires you to deposit money into an account in advance. Said account is then depleted based upon your campaign selection. Meanwhile, Google simply bills your credit card based upon your expenditures. Overture provides more intuitive and complete reporting functionality that enables you to analyze the effectiveness of keywords, but Google allows you to enter a maximum expenditure-per-day. This daily cap provides more control over your monthly spending while Overture’s system simply draws money from the online account until depleted. This daily draw can vary substantially from one day to the next. Also, Overture requires you to keep 3 days of “extra cash” on hand. Do you earn interest on the money you’re loaning to Overture? Forget about it.
2) Be aware of the similarities
Both Google and Overture differentiate their paid clicks from their free, contextual algorithms, usually by featuring the “sponsored” searches on a different part of the page and by highlighting them in a color box. Recently, Overture launched a new product, or search mechanism, whereby an advertiser can choose to be listed among the contextual content, also. That’s kind of like paying for a meal after you’ve already eaten it.
Both services also experience infrequent, yet unexplained, “spikes” that decimate your daily or monthly budget in a matter of minutes or hours. It’s a little unnerving knowing that you could blow through $500 or $1000 in a matter of minutes with absolutely no recourse. Staffed to handle these anomalies, both services feature barely adequate customer service with representatives who often reply to such technical idiosyncrasies with hostile ambivalence. Sounds like an oxymoron, but it’s not.
3) Start conservatively
That said, realize that pay-per-click campaigns are not an exact science and contain the potential to be ridiculously expensive if you’re not careful. Start a campaign on either Google or Overture, but not both. Become familiar with the mechanics before launching full scale advertising campaigns on the other service.
4) Understand the mechanics
The way pay-for-performance works is simple. You bid on search terms, either words or phrases or a combination of both. Your webpage link then appears in search engine results relative to the price of the bid. If you’re the highest bidder, your webpage appears at the absolute top of many search engines. Remember the frustration of typing in a search for your webpage and never finding your link? No longer!
5) Understand the advantages
Perhaps the best part of pay-for-performance advertising is the “pay for performance” part. Unlike traditional advertising where you pay based upon the number of impressions, here, you only pay if people click on your link. In essence, they are pre-sold.
6) Select the appropriate keywords
Let’s look at an example. Say you have published a mystery novel about the death of a land baron in Louisiana. Not exactly a new plot and yet millions of “whodunit” readers may be interested in reading it. Your solution? Open a pay-for-performance account and bid on search terms like “Louisiana Mystery Novel” and “Mystery Book Plantation” and other similar search terms. Counter-intuitively, the more specific the term, the better your campaign will perform, since very specific searches deliver very motivated buyers to your page. Since you’re paying for each click, you want those browsers to buy! That’s where “conversion” comes in to play.
7) Understand the disadvantages
You have to be very careful managing your bids and selecting your keywords, or pay-for-performance advertising can become ineffective. Do not bid on ridiculously vague and popular words like “book” or “fiction” because you will never recoup your money. Instead, focus your search terms as specifically as possible.
It’s only a matter of time before traditional print media finds some way to adopt this new method of cost-per-conversion and pay-for-performance advertising. Those who don’t will die trying. Viva la digital revolution!

The Pay Per Click Mistakes Of A New Marketer
My first real foray into Internet Marketing was a Pay Per Click ad campaign. I really had no idea what I was getting myself into and the results were predictable. I soon had a mountain of debt with little in the way of results to show for it.
It wasn’t the Pay Per Click company’s fault. They basically did what they pronised to do. They got people to my website. The blame was all mine. I had made a couple of serious mistakes during the planning of my campaign. I will share those mistakes so that you can avoid making those same errors yourself.
My first, and probably biggest, mistake was not “looking before I leaped”. I did not take the time that I should have in researching Pay Per Click and learning just how much it could potentially cost. As a result, I was completely caught by surprise by how quickly my credit card was being charged over and over again. Take the time to do the proper amount of research before beginning a Pay Per Click campaign or any other business or advertising opportunity. You should always be aware of the cost or risks of any program before you invest money or time on it.
I made another major mistake when I did not set a daily budget for my campaign. That was a direct result of my ignorance about how much Pay Per Click could actually cost. I did learn an extremely valuable lesson though. Always set a budget. Determine beforehand exactly how much you can afford to spend per week or per month. Be disciplined and stick to it. You should always try to avoid going into debt unless it is absolutely necessary.
The final mistake that I regret was waiting too long to pull the plug on the campaign. I suppose that stubborness set in and I just did not want to admit defeat. However, admitting defeat is sometimes not so bad. If you sense that an opportunity is not working out, then cut your losses. No purpose whatsoever is served by throwing more good money after the bad. Always know “when to say when”.
Learn from my mistakes. Alway do your research before pursuing Pay Per Click or any other new opportunity. Be sure to set a weekly or monthly budget and stick to it. And, finally, if an opportunity is not working out, then don’t give in to stubborness. Cut your losses right away.

Google Adsense - A Website Income
Many of us have websites and as a matter of course join the Google Adsense plan and place the appropriate script code on our web pages. Taking for granted that visitors will come to our web pages and quite happily click on these Google Adsense ads and consequentially we will make money.
However, having experimented with the placement of Google ads and reading as much information on the subject as possible there is far more to it than just putting the ad anywhere on your web page.
Positioning of the Goole Adsense script is critical and it is a proven fact that placing the ad at the top central position of your web page directly beneath your header banner and before your body text is a prime target area. Equally enough so is placing your Google Adsense ad on the top left position of your left sidebar? Both of these can result in you gaining a higher click through rate and a better CPM figure.
Just as important as the positioning of your ad is also the way it is presented and you should not just accept the default settings. It is far better to select the background colour of the ad to match the background colour of your web site and this also applies to the ads border colour.
Pay careful attention also to the Google Adsense link colours, if possible it is far more effective to match these colours to the same colour as you use for your main body text.
As with all things on the internet you really need to experiment with your website and try various configurations but follow these few simple rules and I think you will find a marked increase in your Google income will soon appear.
